The internet is fundamentally broken and we have no control over our data? Could blockchain technology fix this?
In her TEDx talk, Shermin talks about privacy in the machine age and why we need to redefine human rights for the data-driven world we live in today. Shermin strongly encourages a debate on privacy and encryption and emphasizes that Blockchain technology is a powerful tool to reinvent the internet, indeed. Shermin is the director of the Research Institute for Crypto Economics at the Vienna University of Economics, and the founder of BlockchainHub. She is also advisor of Jolocom, a blockchain based self-sovereign identity protocol and Wunder, a decentralized Art Museum. In the past, she was a curator of The DAO and on the advisory board of the Estonian e-Residency. She regularly speaks at conferences and consults on Blockchains and the social impact of future technologies. Shermin did her Ph.D. in IT-Management at the Vienna University of Economics, where she used to work as an assistant professor and currently lectures blockchain related topics. Shermin is Austrian with Iranian roots, living between Berlin and Vienna. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Too little substance. Too high level. Explains nothing that a moderately informed person doesn’t already know.
Love this woman, incredibly eloquent
Nobody needs smart-products/smart-industry ONLY the industries need it and the IT people earning their money with it. NO people need this energy-wasting really !!
Good talk Shermin

if you don't pay for the product you are the product

Peephole, need 2 ask dat question & hopefully, when they finally git da answer, they will b pissed, like me!
Very well structured talk and for an economist, Shermin Voshmgir's ability to explain the application of a complex technology, first by putting it in the real context, is admirable.
Interesting and thought provoking talk well delivered.
Goddamnit this is so much great information but it has so few clicks. We really are early 90s right now
